From independent research among user, Geotech (UK) has designed its new G100 incubator CO2 analyser. The G100 is an easy-to-use, handheld CO2 analyser with increased accuracy in the 0-20 percent range and a bright, easily read display. Reading are stable thanks to inbuilt moisture removal. Timesaving twin-probes check incubator top and bottom temperatures and difference simultaneously. Increased memory holds 1000 readings. Option include O2 and / or RH analysis, temperatures probes, data logging, and USB-link software to download data, analyse and export it – and to enable internet file exchange with Geotech technical and customer support.

Research has ensured the G100 analyser is fully operable and configurable from its keypad and screen. Routine, back-to-factory service and re-calibration is recommended once a year. When due, the analyzer displays a time-for-service warning but continuous to work normally.

As well as simplicity in operation, particular attention has been paid to the display and a new design of LCD has been used with very high legibility in all light conditions. The unit has not only the A-frequency-weighting required by the EU directive, but as well, C- Frequency-weighting, both with F-time-weighting or what was traditionally called ‘Fast response’.

The intent of the model 14 is to carry out an initial survey of factories and other workplace where the noise levels are not expected to be very high. If during and initial survey, no noise level is found that is over say 75dBA, no worker can be exposed to dangerous noise levels and the employer can be confident that he is fully compliant with the current regulations. Even if one or more slightly higher levels are found, these can be avoided or a more complex Leq meter can be used to quantify the average level, or a Personal Sound Exposure meter such as the Pulsar Model 22 ‘doseBadge’ used to measure the noise exposure of individual workers. A high sensitivity range is also fitted, going down to 35 decibels to allow noise to be checked at the boundary of any premises to ensure that noise is not escaping from a workplace.

A major problem with measuring noise accurately for the purposes of the EU directive is the presence of many ultra low cost units, intended for hi-fi. That can be bought from many non-professional retail outlets, but these are simply not suitable for measuring industrial noise as they have not been checked for accuracy and in general cannot be officially approved. Model 14 is normally supplied as a kit including a calibrator – mandated by the Directive as well as the operating manual etc, housed in a carrying pouch and fully complies with the latest International standards IEC 61672 at Class 2 level as well as the older IEC 60651 Type 2.lt therefore offers the lowest cost fully compliant meter available on the European market.

Remote Monitoring in Hazardous Areas via GPRS

R.STAHL's (Germany) 9719-type GSM/GPRS modem, which combines a robust design with state-of-the-art technology and easy installation, allows users to fully benefit from the advantages of GSM/GPRS data communication in zone 1 or 2 hazardous areas for the first time. Designed as a quad-band device, the 9719 modem is suitable for use in process plants in virtually all world regions.
